Nature Therapy
The trees are happy to see me

Every social space has rules. Eye contact. Tone. How long you can talk about something before you have to ask about the other person. I've spent my whole life learning them, and breaking them without knowing.
I don't have a favourite forest. In any country, if there's a park or a forest near me, I go.
The place doesn't matter. What matters is the connection with the trees.
When I walk in, I tell myself the trees are happy to see me. And I talk to them, telepathically.
Nobody is reading my face. Nobody is deciding if my tone is right.
In Japan there's a name for time spent among trees: shinrin-yoku, forest bathing.
I know, it's a bit crazy. But it's what I do.
A pause
Before you go, take one slow minute.
In for four, hold for two, out for six. A longer exhale tells your body you are safe.
